Due to its size, the team is broken into squads.Each squad specializes in a specific style of play, complimenting each other and providing the scenario commander with ready-made units suited to accomplish various roles on the field.

The Texas Roughnecks Paintball Team was created in April 2004. The team was composed of several smaller scenario paintball teams that wanted to push their involvement in this sport to a higher level.

Regular team practices help build and maintain communication skills, small and large unit tactics, and most importantly familiarity with each other's style of play. Most players will tell you they know what the others are doing or going to do based on the amount of practice together. The Roughnecks try to attend at least 7 big scenario games a year.
